Attending Your First Class at Union
Our reception team and teachers work with Beginner students on a regular basis. Our team and students are warm and friendly.
Prepare to practice in bare feet (you will not be able to work effectively in socks).
All beginner level classes are led, this means the teacher at the front of the class will demonstrate each posture whilst verbally guiding you into it. It can also be useful to copy the more experienced students in the room too.
If you have attended your first class and wish to continue a yoga practice, we HIGHLY recommend attending one of our beginner courses. The courses give you time to learn each pose correctly, and has many benefits, in including FREE supporting classes, sequence sheets, and end of course discounts and offers. - Teachers often adjust you during class, please let the teacher know if you do not wish to be adjusted.
- If you are using our Hot Studio, please ensure you sign in before proceeding to the Shala. Not doing say may delay the start of the class.
- Please don’t be late for class. If you are, enter the room quietly. Aim to arrive 10-15 minutes before the class begins to allow yourself time to sign in at reception.
- Please wash your mat regularly.
Please turn your phone off or to silent.
- Be respectful of other students and the space.
- Please inform the teacher of any injuries or if you are pregnant.
Do not eat 2-3 hours before attending class.Try not to eat or drink for 20-40 minutes after class.Please be respectful as you enter the space – we love to hear a bit of chat before and after class, but please try to keep this quiet.

Frequently Asked Questions
Buying blocks makes attending peak-time classes much cheaper (over 30%!) A block is simply a bundle of drop-in passes i.e a block of 5 = 5 drop in classes.
When you buy your block you do not have to book into a specific class, the classes are added to your account and you can drop-in to whichever class you fancy. You can also book into classes ahead online. You can spread your block out over several weeks or use them all in one week – how you use them is entirely up to you!
Both of our blocks have a set period of validity depending on the size. A block of 5 lasts for 5 weeks, and a block of 10 lasts for 10 weeks. Your block will activate on its first use to give you the maximum time possible!
Our beginner courses are specifically designed for people who have no experience of yoga, and we have a variety of drop-in classes that are suitable for all. You can find more information on yoga for beginners, including which classes to attend, on the Beginners section of this page.

There is usually no need to book ahead for a drop-in class, but the studio can become busy at peak-times (evenings and weekends). Signing up online is the quickest and easiest way to make sure you have a spot, you can do this by following this link. Booking ahead will also speed up your sign in and ensure you start the class on time.
Tip: Try to book into workshops and courses well in advance as they often fill very quickly…
