This new 200 hour Foundation Training Course is fully certified and approved by Yoga Alliance Professionals. The course is recognised WORLDWIDE and enables you to get full insurance via Yoga Alliance Professionals. On joining this course you will automatically be registered as a trainee with Yoga Alliance Professionals.

Union Yoga’s 200 hour Comprehensive Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training Program will cover the practical, theoretical, historical, and spiritual aspects of the science of yoga. 

  • Teaching Skills 
  • Asana 
  • History of Yoga (broad outline of many traditions, detailed examination of the history of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga) 
  • Yoga Philosophy (focus given to The Gita, and The Yoga Sutras, but will also discuss other philosophical schools) 
  • Pranayama (various breath techniques) 
  • Meditation 
  • Kriyas (purification practices) 
  • Ayurveda 
  • Nutrition 
  • Anatomy (physical and subtle) 
  • On teaching (physical assists/adjustments of Primary Series Asanas, verbalization and cueing, Ashtanga Methodology, special cases Ethical Guidelines

Total 200 hours (180 contact hours)

There will be pre-course reading and writing assignments plus several written and oral exams during the Teacher Training program with a final assessment.

We also highly recommend that prior to the course you ensure you have built up to a strong 6 days per week practice and are familiar with the Ashtanga Primary Series sequence.


Monday - Fridays (inclusive)

  • 6am - 8am : Mysore Practice
  • 8am - 9am : BREAK
  • 9am - 3pm : Training Session

Saturdays & Sundays (inclusive)

  • 8am - 10am : Mysore Practice
  • 10am - 11am : BREAK
  • 11am - 5pm : Training Session

Application Process

If your application is successful then you will be allocated a space on the course. You will then be required to select one of the payment plans opposite and make either the full payment, or a deposit payment within 7 days.

Failure to make payment may result in the allocated space being lost.

ALL APPLICANTS are required to provide evidence of their practice, preferably by attending classes at the main Union Yoga studio although video evidence and references from a Senior teacher may also be accepted.

ALL APPLICANTS will be required to complete a phone / Skype call with the course tutor before the course commences. This is so we have an understanding of you as a group - and an individual.

Scholarship Place

We are offering 3 x Scholarship places on our 2017 course, covering 50% of the course cost on your behalf. To apply, we need you to submit an additional letter (minimum 500 words) with your application. This should outline why you wish to participate in this course, how it will impact your life, and also explain why you are unable to cover the full cost of the course. Please submit your letter to

We require an initial, non-refundable, deposit of 25% to secure your booking. 

We will then work out a flexible payment structure to suit your needs. The full balance MUST be settled by 21st August, 2017.
